Media Walls in Gedling

Media walls for Gedling, from the new homes at Chase Farm to the old village, built on their own frame so your TV never hangs from plasterboard alone.

New homes at Chase Farm

Gedling is about two miles east of our base in Mapperley, and since Colliery Way opened in March 2022 the run across from Mapperley Plains has been an easy one. The road crosses the old colliery site and gives access to Chase Farm, where Gedling Borough Council approved Keepmoat Homes' final phase of 433 homes, from two to five bedrooms, in April 2022. If you have moved into one of the new houses, a media wall is a good way to give a plain lounge a real focal point.

Why a frame works better than a bracket

Walls in newer houses are often lined with plasterboard, either on studs or stuck to the blockwork behind with adhesive dabs. Hanging a large TV straight onto that, and then chasing cables down it, is not ideal. A media wall avoids both problems. Its new frame of timber or metal studs is fixed to the floor, ceiling and structure, with solid timber backing placed exactly where the TV bracket will go, and the cables run through the space behind the new boards rather than through your existing wall. That means you can hang a heavier screen, or one on a swing-arm bracket, knowing the fixings go into timber rather than board alone, and the original wall of a house that is still new stays untouched.

In the old village

Not everyone in Gedling lives in a new build. The village goes back at least as far as the Domesday Book, and the council adopted a new Gedling Village Conservation Area in June 2025. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so an indoor media wall is not usually affected, though a listed building would need consent first. Older houses tend to have solid walls and sometimes a chimney breast, and a frame can be built against or around either.

Planning yours

Start with the TV and, if you want one, an inset electric fire. The fire's installation instructions specify the opening size, the clearances and any ventilation, and the frame is built to those numbers. Around them you can add alcoves for speakers or ornaments, a slot for a soundbar, and LED channels that wash light along the recesses. All sockets and electrical connections are put in by a qualified electrician, and the boarded frame is beaded on every edge and skimmed for a smooth finish ready to decorate. Call 07877 353120 or use the enquiry form, and include photos of the wall, its width and anything on it such as a radiator. We work 7am to 5pm, seven days a week.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The media wall has its own timber or metal frame fixed to the floor, ceiling and structure, with solid backing where the TV bracket goes. That means the screen is not relying on the existing plasterboard, and cables run behind the new boards instead of being chased into your wall.
