Bulwell had its own building stone. Bulwell sandstone and magnesian limestone were quarried here, and houses, schools, churches and garden walls of Bulwell sandstone still stand for miles around the town; the stone was even used in the wall around Wollaton Hall. Patch Me If You Can works right across the area, about four miles west-north-west of our Mapperley base.
Old town, newer estates
The layout of the Market Place has barely changed, but Bulwell has grown through a string of estates over the past century: Crabtree Farm, Snape Wood, Highbury Vale, Hempshill Vale and the Bulwell Hall estate. Top Valley was built in the 1970s on three former farms, with newer housing since on Bakewell Drive and eco-homes at Ranskill Gardens from 2018. Rise Park sits in the same Bulwell Forest ward, and private housing now stands where the outdoor Lido used to be.
What a job involves depends on how the house was built. Old stone and brick walls need loose plaster removed and the background prepared so the new plaster bonds, before a skim goes on. In later estate houses, it might be a cracked ceiling to re-board and skim, or a tired room brought back with a full skim. Plasterboarding, patch repairs, stud walls, media walls and wall panelling make up the rest of the indoor plastering we offer, along with whole properties of up to four bedrooms.
