Patch Me If You Can is based right here in Mapperley, so this is home ground. With 18 years in indoor plastering behind the business, the work runs from a small ceiling patch around a light fitting to a full skim of a three-bedroom house, and no job in the area is a long journey.
Homes along the ridge
Mapperley sits a little over 400 feet up on a narrow ridge topped by Woodborough Road, the highest part of Nottingham. Its houses come from several eras. On the east side of Woodborough Road, homes on Blyth Street and Querneby Road went up from around 1900, and over the next twenty years new streets spread as far as Porchester Road, where Mapperley Hospital was built in the 1870s. Beyond the city boundary, Mapperley Plains carries on along the B684 towards the Woodborough turn. The area even made its own building material: some of the region's largest brickworks stood on this high ground, which is where the saying "Nottingham once stood on Mapperley Plains" comes from.
What we do on the doorstep
In houses from the early 1900s, original plaster can lose its grip on the brick after a century, so patch repairs and re-plastering are often where a job starts. Any room can then be brought back with a fresh skim, including over an old Artex ceiling. Beyond that there is plasterboarding, stud walls to split a bedroom or form a box room, media walls for the living room, and wall panelling for hallways, stairs and landings.
Mapperley is split between Nottingham City Council and Gedling Borough Council, and it makes no difference to us which side you are on. Call 07877 353120, seven days a week between 7am and 5pm, or use the enquiry form.
