Arnold starts barely two miles north of Mapperley, and Killisick even shares a border with it. That makes the town one of the quickest places for Patch Me If You Can to reach, whether your home is in Daybrook, Woodthorpe, Redhill, Warren Hill or up at Dorket Head.
Built in waves
Arnold grew on framework knitting and hosiery, and the first Luddite frame-breaking took place here in March 1811, when 63 frames were smashed. Its housing has arrived in stages ever since. Grove House was pulled down in the 1920s to make room for new homes, the grounds of Daybrook House became private housing after the Air Ministry began selling them in 1958, and in 2019 outline permission was given for 148 homes east of the A60 Mansfield Road, north of Georgia Drive.
Different decades mean different walls, from solid brick finished in plaster to plasterboard on studs, and the right preparation depends on which you have. Getting that part right is what makes a skim sit flat and stay put.
