Carlton is a town of two halves, and that shapes the plastering work as much as anything. The northern side of the valley was built mainly during the Industrial Revolution and the early 1900s; the southern side mostly in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. Patch Me If You Can works on both, about two miles east-south-east of our Mapperley base, and across neighbouring Netherfield, where the population rose from 60 in 1801 to over 4,600 by 1901 and rows of terraced Victorian houses were built.
Older walls and mid-century rooms
In the older streets, original plaster can lose its key to the brick over the decades, so patch repairs and re-plastering are often the starting point before anything is skimmed. In the houses south of the valley, the job is just as likely to be a fresh skim over worn walls, or plasterboarding over a ceiling that has cracked too many times to patch.
Then there are the projects that change how a room works: a stud wall to divide a large bedroom, a media wall in the lounge with space for the TV and its cables, or wall panelling to give a plain hallway some character. All of it counts as indoor plastering, and all of it is something we do.
