Plasterers in Long Eaton

Patch Me If You Can crosses into Derbyshire to plaster homes across Long Eaton, from the Victorian terraces near the lace mills to the newer streets beyond.

Long Eaton sits just over the county line in Derbyshire, about eight miles south-west of Mapperley, and it is firmly within the area Patch Me If You Can covers. The red brick lace mills along the Erewash Canal, Harrington Mill among them, tell you how the town grew: lace-making and railway wagon building through the Victorian years, then upholstery as the lace trade declined in the 1920s.

Victorian terraces and semis

That growth left a lot of Victorian housing. Erewash Borough Council's appraisal of the Long Eaton Mills Conservation Area describes high-density Victorian terraces on King Street, Prince Street and Princess Street, and Victorian semi-detached houses on Lime Grove. In the town centre, the floors above the shops on the High Street and Market Place show that much of it is Victorian or early 20th century.

Houses of that age were plastered straight onto solid brick, and after a century or more the plaster can crack, sound hollow or come away altogether. Patch repairs and re-plastering deal with that, and a skim over the top gives a finish that takes paint well. Lath and plaster ceilings, common in houses of the period, can be over-boarded with plasterboard and skimmed when they start to sag.

Newer homes need plastering too, such as those on the estate of houses and flats on the former speedway stadium site. Stud walls, media walls and wall panelling are all part of the indoor plastering on offer, and full properties of up to four bedrooms are taken on as well.
